Ahhh sometimes you just have no inspiration. Today, for instance, I have no clue what I feel like doing. I shouldn't be sitting here on this pc, but I like to read the news in the mornings if I can. It beats having to subscribe to the paper.
In scanning the "letters to the editor" in today's paper it still amazes me how closed-minded and pathetic some people sound. This woman wrote in about magazine covers and pictures in the mall stores being so R-rated that she can't take her family to the mall anymore. Ummmm ok. Now I agree, there are a LOT of barely clad women in the Victoria's Secret store uptown, but it's not R-rated! Trust me lady, if you think your kids are going to be the model of innocence because you keep them from the local panty store then you need to open your eyes. You better be prepared to take the tv away entirely. Don't let them see any movies, or listen to the radio. Friends and school would be a bad idea because..hmmm..... Yes, it seems like I remember learning about a few R-rated things there. (And for you people out there who think that private or christian schools are 'better', news for ya. The sluttiest friends I had came from well to-do, conservative families who sent them to private or religious schools.)
It's so odd to think that we are considered the "land of the free" when we have so many (mainly religious) bigots in this country. And even though those people are allowed to voice their opinions due to the constitution, they have no problems with wanting to go in and change it to suit their personal belief system. I firmly believe that the greatest good and the greatest evil could be described in one simple word: religion. In it's positive light, it helps give millions of lives direction and meaning. It can be a powerful experience and enlightenment in whatever faith you've chosen is indeed one of the most enjoyable things that can happen. In it's more common, negative light, it becomes the hammer that drives the killing blow. For something that was supposedly built on a "God's love", more death and destruction have taken place in religion's name than anything else. It is very true that the human mind cannot understand or comprehend the nature of divinity. And in our too often convenient way, humans have 'twisted' and molded what we THINK divinity is into ways to gain power, wealth, and revenge. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in the Christian church. And it scares me because now we are bringing more and more of that religion into our politics. Can you imagine? The country founded on FREEDOM and the right to be free of RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION is steadily fusing more of it's basic rights with a certain religion. Am I mistaken or do we have no national religion here? Why then are we constantly made to bend to the will of the Christian doctrines? I don't know, it's confusing. And nothing good will come of it. IF the so called "Armageddon" does come, those who claimed worship with their God while grinding their feet into the backs of others will be surprised to find that they are in the wrong army.
Granted, this isn't true for all religious people, so don't fly off the handle and start cursing my name. Although to be quite honest I doubt I'd care if you did. I have a great many GOOD friends who are christian and who also understand that although I may believe different than them, I still am entitled to my own beliefs and they are just as meaningful and important as their own. I feel the same towards them. Respect is earned; not given. Dee, for example, is very tolerant of me and has never tried to "burn" me because of my religious views. And for that I respect her immensely. Now if we could only get others to understand that differences are alright, from all walks of life, things could only get better.
Ah well just a few ramblings. Perhaps I'll find something interesting to do now that I have some time to kill. Until next time. - posted by Loki's Concubine @ 10:11 AM
