Thought I'd stop in right fast and say hey. I'm so utterly tired, I was tired last night and ended up only sleeping about two hours. Then I was up, going to feed the horsies this morning. And I can't lay down now or I'll never wake Mom up at 3pm. We are going to feed the horses, clean the pastures/stalls and stay with Allen while Barb goes 'marketing'. hehe. She's a yankee.... gotta pick at her going 'marketing'. LMAO. Down here in the south its' called going to the grocery store!
Anyways, we got some professional bug spray today from a friend so we can try to spray Mr. Riley's apartment while he's gone to blind school. The poor old guy... I think he's like 87 years old and is going blind from macular degeneration. He can hardly see now so he went to 'blind school' to learn to use his other senses and do more for himself. So while he was away he asked the landlords to spray his apartment. Now Dee... this would kill you if you seen the place this guy lives. And it was like this BEFORE he moved in so I feel like even tho the contract he signed says that they don't spray, the landlords should be responsible. IMO they should be responsible anyway even with the contract because this is way beyond just a 'normal' bug problem. This is heavyduty infestation and it's really not suitable for anyone to live in, much less renting! So anyways... the roaches are so bad in there that they are all over the place even in the daytime with the lights on. They're everywhere! And the poor man, he literally (and I'm not making this up) has to spray himself down with a heavy coat of OFF when he goes to bed at night and they STILL wake him up because they're crawling all over him. It's not healthy! And with him being blind we all know that he's been eating them because you know they get on anything that he sits on the counter even for a minute. And he can't see that they're there... OMG it is all I can do to stay in there and help him with his computer when he asks me to show him something or fix something because they crawl all over the walls and ceilings and even his computer. (I even saw one come OUT of his printer one day.) I feel so bad for him, because he's such an awesome sweet old man who really deserves to be treated better than that. I think those landlords should be ashamed and need their asses kicked! The only reason we haven't turned them into the health department is because we know they'd condemn the building and he would have nowhere to go. So.. we're hoping that when we spray this stuff a few times it will at least cut the problem down some so that he can sleep without waking up from cockaroacha feetsies on him. If we ever win the lottery I am going to pay for him and Lilly (another little old lady that we've taken care of for years that lives across from Mr. Riley) to move to one of those really nice apartment complexes for older people. You know the ones that have people available if they need help but it's not like a nursing home. They still have their own place and make their own decisions but there is a cook on hand to fix meals if they don't feel like cooking and there are scheduled activities and medical personal on staff to help if called. I think that's where they both need to be anyway, but neither one can afford it. It's so disgusting to see how little help they can get from the government or even from their own landlords and so are forced to live in those conditions. I mean Lilly is 78 years old and lives alone and do you know that she can only get $11.00 in food stamps for the entire month?!?!?! And yet there are people out here who are VERY able to work who are sitting home getting welfare checks and hundreds of dollars in foodstamps simply because they gapped open their legs (FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE!) and were stupid enough to not use protection and so popped out a kid.. but again, they did this on purpose. I went to school with girls who told me that they weren't going to have to work after high school b/c all they had to do was have a few kids and that's what their mothers and aunts had done. BAH!!!!! Bastages I say!!
Sorry I'm just disgusted at how one sided things are in this country.
In other news, a guy just emailed me from the UK and wants to buy a couple of my miniature pewter pieces from me that I have extra. I had wanted to trade them for other pieces, but he offered me like 40 pounds (which I believe equals around $70.00 US). So if he wants to get me the money in US dollars I will gladly sell him the two pieces. lol. That will still leave me with about ten other extras to either sell later or trade. I really want to get back to working on my collections. Mainly my DVD, Tudor Mint, and LOTR collections... but unfortunately that won't happen for a LONG while. But at least I know that when I ever do get a job and pay back all my debts and save up some money that I have something to look forward to. And who knows, maybe as the years pass the prices will go down. One can only hope. I don't collect to resale, just for personal pleasure so I'm not worried about values.
Mom and I decided that we are going to start working on the porch and getting Dad's building cleaned up. It's going to take a LOT of work. The porch won't be too terribly bad once we really get onto it. Just getting rid of the initial trash will take time. The bad part will be the building... it's a horrid mess. Dad can't say anything about us being the packrats!! LOL. All of us are so bad about it. But we told him today that we're going to start cleaning up in there and putting shelves and hangers up. We promised him that we wouldn't throw anything away without asking him first and he seemed ok with that. We explained that we're trying to get those things straightened up so we can move our stuff here that we have in the storage building that Mom rents; then we won't have to pay the fifty bucks every month for that building. It's mainly just junk anyway, some xmas stuff... Mom's rocking chairs that she wants to put on the porch when it's cleaned up. We need to have a few MASSIVE yard sales. We have so much shit, not lying, that we could clean the house and have a huge yard sale for EACH room in the house! And when we ever do get around to getting into the attic.... well let's just say that a few weekends will be gone. LOL. (Dad's old military clothes from 20 years ago are still up there.) hehe It was just last year that I talked Dad into getting rid of the pair of black leather boots with zippers up the sides that he got married in. (That was back in the 60's!!) But I got a laugh out of it. I listed theme on ebay for $5.00 as authentic james brown/austin powers dancing shoes. And someone bought them. TEEHEE!!!!
My show comes on tonight. yay! It's the only one I try to keep up with anymore although the Wonderfalls show looks interesting and I might try to watch it too.
So I kinda got inspired by ya Dee to do a trivia game. I think I will do the 'wierd trivia' idea. I think it would be sorta fun. hehe. I was sitting here listening to my cd and thinking, damn... I have so much music and so many cd's that I could easily import some songs onto my pc and stream. I wonder how one streams though. lol. Can someone stream without chatting? LMAO! I'll stream for myself I guess. lol.
Well only an hour to go until it's time to head back out so I think I'll go and just surf or something. Hopefully I'll catch ya on later and hope you're having a good day!! - posted by Loki's Concubine @ 11:01 AM
